Narro Makes Cut and Shoots Up the Leaderboard at the 58th Mexican Open

Aguascalientes, Mexico – Following a first round 67, -4 under par, on Thursday, Bowling Green State University's Jose Narro shot a second round 68, -3 under par, on Friday at the 58th annual Mexican Open (58 Abierto Mexicano) held at the par 71 Club Campestre de Aguascalientes in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
With his opening two rounds of 67 and 68, Narro sits in a tie for eighth-place overall with a 36-hole score of 135, -7 under par. Narro entered the day in a tie for 12th-place overall and climbed four spots with his strong round of play on Friday. He has carded nine birdies and 26 pars over his first two days of play to send him into the weekend.
One of 57 total players to make the cut at -1 under par, Narro is just one of two amateur golfers that made the cut and moved on to the weekend of play. The other, Roberto Lebrija of Mexico, is in a tie for 49th-place overall at 141, -1 under par.
Starting on the back nine on Friday, Narro posted six straight pars before shooting a birdie on the par 4 hole No. 16 to go -1 under through seven holes of play. The Tampico, Mexico native then wrapped up the back nine with back-to-back pars to post a 35, -1 under par, after his first nine holes.
Narro continued his consistent play on the front nine, as he went par, birdie, par, par and birdie to go -3 under par with four holes left in the round. He then closed out his second set of 18-holes with four straight pars to shoot a 33, -2 under par, on the front nine and finish the day with his score of 68, -3 under par overall.
The Falcon co-captain is in a four-way tie for eighth-place overall and is just four strokes off the lead of 131, -11 under par.
Narro will tee-off in the third to last group at 11:18 a.m. local time (12:18 p.m. ET). He is paired with Lanto Griffin and Ken Looper both of the U.S.A.
As part of the first half of the 2016 PGA Tour Latinoamérica schedule, the Mexican Open is the National Open Championship for the Mexican Federation of Golf.
