Aguascalientes, Mexico – One of only two amateur golfers to make the cut, Bowling Green State University's Jose Narro shot a final round of 74, +3, on Sunday to finish in a tie for 50th-place overall with a 72-hole score of 283, -1 under par, at the 58th annual Mexican Open (58 Abierto Mexicano) held at the par 71 Club Campestre de Aguascalientes in Aguascalientes, Mexico from May 16-22.
Narro, who carded rounds of 67, 68 and 74 over the first three rounds of play heading into Sunday, carded a second straight round of 74 on the final day to place in a tie for 50th overall.
For the second straight day, the Tampico, Mexico native had an up-and-down round, as he turned in four birdies, eight pars, five bogeys, and one double bogey on his final round of play.
After opening the round with five straight pars and then a birdie on the par 3 hole No. 6 to go -1 under, Narro would bogey three of his next four holes to go to +2 after 10 holes of play.
Following a par on hole No. 11, Narro went double bogey and bogey to go to +5 with five holes remaining on the day.
Refusing to quit, Narro carded three straight birdies on holes No. 14, 15 and 16, before bogeying the par 4 hole No. 17 to back to +3. He ended his four days of play with a par on the par 4 hole No. 18 to finish his final round with a 74, +3.
The rising senior totaled 16 birdies and 45 pars over the four days of play.
As part of the first half of the 2016 PGA Tour Latinoamérica schedule, the Mexican Open is the National Open Championship for the Mexican Federation of Golf.
Narro will next return to the links on June 6 for a 2016 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier in either Columbus, Ohio, Springfield, Ohio or Houston, Texas.
