Miller, Garda Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
September 05, 2016 | General, Men's Soccer, Volleyball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer player Robert Miller III and volleyball player Madeline Garda.
Male Athlete of the Week
Robert Miller III, a freshman from York, Pa., had three points as the Falcons downed Marshall, 3-0, in BGSU's lone game of the week. Miller picked up an assist on what proved to be the winning goal, senior Joe Sullivan's marker in the 30th minute of the contest. Then, he scored his first collegiate goal with just 2:10 left in the first half, giving the Brown and Orange a 2-0 lead.
Female Athlete of the Week
Madeline Garda, a senior from West Chester, Ohio, led the Falcons to a 2-0 weekend and was named MVP of the BGSU Invitational. In Friday's victory over Fort Wayne, Garda registered 17 total digs (5.57 digs/set). On Saturday, there was virtually no drop off, as she registered 15 digs (5.00 digs/set) in a victory over Northern Kentucky. The senior also notched three aces and one kill against NKU. Garda recorded two assists in each match as BGSU won two-straight matches via the sweep for the first time since 2012.
