Rispler, Fleak Named Jet's Pizza Athletes Of The Week
October 16, 2017 | General, Men's Golf, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's golfer Max Rispler and women's soccer player Skylar Fleak.
Male Athlete of the Week
Max Rispler, a redshirt junior from Grand Rapids, Mich., earned MAC Golfer of the Week on two occasions in the 2016-2017 season and led the Falcons to a close two-stroke victory at the 2017 Mountaineer Intercollegiate (Oct. 9-10) hosted by West Virginia University. The invitational included 16 teams with two other MAC schools and a total of 84 athletes. Rispler carded a season-low 214, -2 to land in seventh place overall, including rounds of 72, 72 and 70. Rispler carried men's golf to its first team win in over four years.
Female Athlete of the Week
Skylar Fleak, a senior from Sunbury, Ohio, celebrated her final regular season home games by leading the Falcons to a weekend sweep of Buffalo and Akron. On Friday against the Bulls, BGSU fell behind 2-0 in the 60th minute, but Fleak cut the deficit in half just three minutes later. That started an amazing run that included the equalizer in the 76th minute and the game-winning header off a Madison Schupbach corner with 7:22 left in regulation. Fleak's hat trick is her second of the season, which ties a BGSU record, and she needed only 20:16 of game time to accomplish it. Her hat trick is the fourth-fastest in school history. She did it all while playing just 53 reserve minutes while recovering from an ankle injury. On Sunday, Fleak returned to the starting lineup and earned her fifth assist of 2017 when she fed Erica Hubert for an insurance goal in BGSU's 2-0 win. In total, Fleak scored seven points.
