Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt seniors Nate Locke and Joseph Davidson have been named First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As members of the first team, both Locke and Davidson will be on the ballot for Academic All-American status.
Davidson, who holds a 3.96 GPA with a double major in finance and mathematics, was named First Team Academic All-America a year ago and is now a three-time First Team Academic All-District award winner. As a redshirt sophomore, he was named Second Team Academic All-American. Locke maintains a 4.0 GPA in psychology and received Academic All-District honors for the first time in his career.
Davidson was named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award Thursday as one of the top 10 punters in the country. It is the second consecutive year in which he was named a semifinalist for the honor. Davidson averages 44.2 yards per punt and has dropped 28 of his 57 punts inside the 20. He has 10 punts of 50 yards or more and has only had two touchbacks. In fact, he has had three punts downed at the one-yard line. His net punting average of 42.4 yards ranks eighth in the country.
Locke has been the quarterback of the Bowling Green defense in 2017, starting at middle linebacker. He ranks second on the Falcons with 84 tackles and has a team-high 8.5 tackles for loss. He has posted three quarterback hurries, two sacks and a fumble recovery. The BGSU defense has recovered 15 fumbles, second-most in the country, and forced 23 turnovers, among the top 10 nationally.
Davidson and Locke were named Academic All-District for District 5, which includes all Football Bowl Series (FBS) and Football Championship Series (FCS) schools from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Nominees must be a starter or key reserve and hold a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better. A student-athlete can not be nominated until completing one full calendar year their current institution and reaching sophomore athletic eligibility.
