The schedule begins on Saturday afternoon, March 25, as the Falcons head south to face the University of Dayton. The Falcons and Flyers battled to a 1-1, double-overtime draw at Cochrane during the fall 2016 schedule.
The following weekend, the Brown and Orange will return to the road for a Saturday (April 1) date at Oakland University. Then, BGSUÂ begins the home portion of the spring slate with the first of five-straight evening matches at Cochrane.
The Falcons will face Tiffin on Friday, April 7, in a 7:00 p.m. start, before meeting Detroit the following Thursday (April 13) in a 9:00 p.m. matchup. Tiffin went 14-5-2 a year ago, and the Dragons won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament championship for the fourth time in eight years.
BGSU meets Vaughan SC, a Canadian club program, on Thursday, April 20, in an 8:00 p.m. start, before welcoming a veritable plethora of former BGSU men's soccer greats back to town two days later (Saturday, April 22), for the team's annual Alumni Match.Â
The spring schedule concludes the following Saturday, April 29, as BGSU takes on Ohio Wesleyan in a 7:00 p.m. start. The Battling Bishops finished 2016 with a 10-5-3 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships for an NCAA-record 39th time in program history.
BGSU finished with an overall record of 9-6-4 in 2016, and the Falcons went 2-0-3 in MAC play. BG – picked to finish fifth in the six-team league in the preseason coaches' poll – placed second in the final regular-season standings, for the program's best finish since 2002. The Falcons went undefeated in the MAC for the first time in 20 years, and BGSU also was unbeaten at home for the first time in two decades. The Falcons had just four seniors on the 25-man roster.
