November 26, 2018 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Justin Turner and women's basketball player Morgan McMillen.
Male Athlete of the Week
Justin Turner, a redshirt sophomore from Detroit, Mich., averaged 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks as Bowling Green men's basketball went 2-1 on the week. Turner, who shot 47.2 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from downtown, scored 20-plus points twice on the week while also posting the second double-double of his career. In a come-from-behind win over Hampton, Turner registered 21 points and four assists. After scoring 11 points the following night at Detroit Mercy to earn Legends Classic All-Tournament Team honors, the native of Detroit concluded his week with a career performance. In a win over Drexel, Turner recorded 29 points, a career-high 11 rebounds, and a season-high six assists.Â
Female Athlete of the Week
Morgan McMillen, a freshman from Berlin, Ohio, averaged 20.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last week. She shot 48.6 percent from the floor in the Falcons' three games, and went 11-for-26 from three-point range (42.3 percent). McMillen scored a game-high 25 points in BGSU's win over Loyola Chicago, hitting six field goals and going 12-of-13 at the free-throw line. She played all 40 minutes of the Falcons' narrow 81-80 loss at Coastal Carolina, hitting five three-pointers en route to 15 points, and also pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. On Sunday, McMillen scored 22 points, again making five three-pointers, and added seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals against Mercer, a 30-win team a year ago.
