Falcons Land Three on All-MAC First Team
November 08, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Ackon, Mustafa, Robertson all voted to all-league squad
A trio of Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts have been honored by the Mid-American Conference. Seniors Ebenezer Ackon, Moe Mustafa and Tate Robertson all have been named to the All-MAC First Team.
The all-conference team, along with the specialty award winners, was announced on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 8) by the league office.
All three players earn all-conference honors for the first time in their respective BGSU careers.
The Falcons' total of three all-league first-team selections is the program's highest since the 1997 season.
Ackon, a native of Cape Coast, Ghana (Mfantsipim School), is second on the Falcons in scoring, and his total of 11 points includes a BGSU-best five goals. He picked up his first career game-winning goal on Saturday night (Nov. 3), as the Falcons ended the regular season with a 2-0 win over SIUE. Ackon led the team with three goals and an assist in the five MAC matches, and has been a mainstay on the BG defense.
Mustafa, who hails from Westlake, Ohio (Westlake H.S.), has joined Ackon to form two-thirds of a back line that has recorded four shutouts this season. Two of those clean sheets came in MAC matches, as BGSU had a team goals-against average of 0.91. At the other end of the pitch, Mustafa has five points on the season, with two goals and an assist. Three of those five points came in MAC matches, ranking him third on the team (behind Ackon and Robertson) in scoring in conference contests.
Robertson, a native of Springfield, Ohio (Catholic Central), leads the team with 11 assists and 19 points, and ranks second on the Falcons with four goals. Robertson has been directly involved in the scoring of 15 of BGSU's 22 goals this fall, including 11 of the Falcons' last 15. His assist total is the highest by a Falcon since 1997, and nine of his 11 assists have been the primary helper. Robertson has career totals of 22 assists – tied for 10th in school history – and 38 points.
The Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols have an overall record of 6-6-4, and BGSU finished MAC play with a 2-1-2 league ledger. BG finished second in the six-team conference for the second time in three years.
BGSU heads to Morgantown, W.Va., for the MAC Tournament. The second-seeded Falcons face number-three seed Western Michigan on Friday (Nov. 9), with first touch set for 2:30 p.m. at West Virginia's Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
