Ryan Hunter Picked By Grey Cup Champs Toronto In CFL Draft First Round
May 04, 2018 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University offensive lineman Ryan Hunter was selected in the first round of the Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft Thursday evening by the Toronto Argonauts. The Argonauts are the defending Grey Cup Champions.
Widely considered one of the top available players for the CFL Draft, Hunter slid to the ninth pick of the first round because of his status as an Undrafted Free Agent signee with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. A native of North Bay, Ontario, Hunter was projected No. 1 overall in the CFL Draft before deciding to sign with the Chiefs.
"We're extremely excited to get Ryan with the ninth overall pick," said Argos GM Jim Popp on Toronto's website www.argonauts.ca. "Sometimes you have to take a chance to get one of the best players in the draft. We hope our calculated risk will pay off and we'll see Ryan wearing the Double Blue sometime in the near future."
Hunter started every game over his final three seasons with Falcons, playing in 52 games total. In 2015, he started all 14 games at left guard as BGSU set school records in points, total yards, passing yards and first downs. He was a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-MAC.
Bowling Green players have made an impact in the CFL previously, most recently and notably wide receiver Kamar Jorden. A member of the Calgary Stampeders, Jorden had 52 catches for 717 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games a year ago. He also caught 12 passes for 228 yards in two playoff games.
