Ackon, Cox Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
August 27, 2018 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer players Ebenezer Ackon and Nikki Cox.
Male Athlete of the Week
Ebenezer Ackon, a senior from Cape Coast, Ghana, scored a pair of goals just 75 seconds apart in the Falcons' lone match of the week, a 3-2 loss to Northern Kentucky. He headed home a Tate Robertson cross with 4:27 left in the second half, then got his head on a Robertson corner kick with 3:12 on the clock. The goals were the first and second, respectively, of his BGSU career, and the multiple-goal game, obviously, was his first as a Falcon.
Female Athlete of the Week
Nikki Cox, a redshirt sophomore from Granville, Ohio, scored two goals in her first three games as a Falcon, and currently leads the team in scoring. Cox, a transfer from UNCW, found the back of the net in her first-ever match as a Falcon, a 1-1 draw with Loyola Marymount in Hawai'i. She also scored in Saturday's match vs. Oakland, netting the second goal in BGSU's 3-0 win. She paces the team in both goals and points (four).
