Ackon, Mustafa & Robertson all earn OCSA recognition
Three Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts have earned All-Ohio honors from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association. Seniors Ebenezer Ackon, Moe Mustafa and Tate Robertson all were named to the team.
With three players selected, the Falcons had the third-highest number of players on the 15-member All-Ohio squad. Both Wright State and Akron had four players named to the team.
Ackon, Mustafa and Robertson all earn All-Ohio accolades for the first time in their respective collegiate careers.
Ackon, a native of Cape Coast, Ghana (Mfantsipim School), was an All-MAC First-Team selection. He finished second on the Falcons in scoring in 2018, and his total of 11 points included a BGSU-best five goals. He picked up his first career game-winning goal on Senior Night at Cochrane Stadium (Nov. 3), as the Falcons ended the regular season with a 2-0 win over SIUE. Ackon led the team with three goals and an assist in the five MAC matches, and was a mainstay on the BG defense.
Mustafa, who hails from Westlake, Ohio (Westlake H.S.), also was named to the All-MAC First Team. He joined Ackon to form two-thirds of a back line that recorded four shutouts on the season. Two of those clean sheets came in MAC matches, as BGSU had a team goals-against average of 0.91. At the other end of the pitch, Mustafa had five points on the year, with two goals and an assist. Three of those five points came in MAC matches, ranking him third on the team (behind Ackon and Robertson) in scoring in conference contests.
Robertson, a native of Springfield, Ohio (Catholic Central), joined Ackon and Mustafa on the All-MAC First Team. Robertson led the Falcons with 11 assists and 19 points, and finished second on the club with four goals. Robertson was been directly involved in the scoring of 15 of BGSU's 22 goals in 2018, including 11 of the Falcons' last 15. His assist total was the highest by a Falcon since 1997, and nine of his 11 assists were the primary helper. Robertson finished his BG career with totals of 22 assists – tied for 10th in school history – and 38 points.
BGSU closed the 2018 season with an overall record of 6-7-4, and the Falcons posted a 2-1-2 mark in MAC play. BG, picked to place fifth in the six-team conference, finished second and earned a first-round bye for the league tourney. The Falcons have finished second in the league twice in the last three seasons. BG went 5-1-2 over the final eight contests of the regular season, including a six-match unbeaten streak, the program's longest since 1997.
