Grant Loy Named MAC East Offensive Player Of The Week
October 14, 2019 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt junior quarterback Grant Loy has been named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Offensive Player of the Week. Loy threw for 185 yards and rushed for 137 more as Bowling Green defeated rival Toledo in the Battle of I-75 Saturday by a score of 20-7.
Loy, making his first start of the season and just the second of his career, accounted for both of Bowling Green's touchdowns. He threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Denley that gave the Falcons a 10-0 first quarter lead and then rushed for a 15-yard second quarter score that put BGSU ahead 17-7.
Loy also set the tone from the outset, rushing 56 yards on the first play from scrimmage of the game. His 137 yards rushing were the most for a BGSU quarterback since Freddie Barnes, who transitioned into a record breaking wide receiver, rushed for 158 in a 2006 contest against Wisconsin. That 56-yard run was the longest for a BGSU quarterback since Matt Johnson had an identical 56-yard run in a 2013 victory over Buffalo that clinched a MAC East Division championship.
With the win over Toledo, Bowling Green evened the all-time series between the two rivals at 40-40-4. BGSU celebrated 100 years of football throughout a number of weekend activities.
