BGSU heads to Pittsburgh to open regular season next weekend
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team wrapped up the exhibition schedule on Friday night (Aug. 23), battling the host University of Dayton to a scoreless draw at Baujan Field.
"I am really pleased with the progress we have made since our first exhibition match, but we still have a lot of room to grow," said Falcon head coach Eric Nichols. "We will continue to clean things up in the back and work on ways to create more goal scoring chances."
The Flyers were credited with 15 shots to the Falcons' 11 on the evening, but BGSU had a slim 6-5 lead in shots on goal. Senior Anthony Mwembia and freshman Logan Kowalczyk combined for the shutout in goal. Mwembia played just under 68 minutes and made a pair of saves, while Kowalczyk had one stop in 22-plus minutes between the posts.
At the other end of the pitch, junior Chris Sullivan paced the Brown and Orange with totals of three shot attempts and two shots on goal. Senior Chris Brennan fired two shots on the night.
The Falcons will play the first four matches of the regular season away from home, beginning with a pair of contests in Pittsburgh next weekend. BGSU will face Duquesne on Friday night (Aug. 30), before taking on Robert Morris Sunday afternoon (Sept. 1).
BGSU's home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 13, vs. Ohio State. Again this season, admission is free to all BGSU home regular-season matches.
