Senior goalkeeper honored after keeping clean sheets vs. Wisconsin, Northwestern
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Anthony Mwembia has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. The announcement was made by TDS on Tuesday morning (Sept. 10).
Mwembia earns TDS accolades for the third time in his Falcon career. He earned honorable mention on the site's team of the week once each in 2017 and '18.
Mwembia's award marks the Falcons' third honor in the last 24 hours. Junior defender Achille Robin was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Monday (Sept. 9), and was named Mid-American Conference co-Player of the Week earlier on Tuesday.
Mwembia, a native of Toulouse, France, kept a pair of clean sheets as the Falcons beat two Big Ten Conference teams over the weekend. Mwembia had five saves and a goals-against average of 0.00 on the weekend, as BG topped Wisconsin (1-0) and Northwestern (3-0) at NU's Lakeside Classic.
Mwembia made two stops against the Badgers, and had three saves vs. the Wildcats, increasing his totals to three shutouts this season and 22 in his career. He has posted three-straight shutouts. Mwembia has gone 325:13 without allowing a goal, and has surrendered just one goal in four matches this season. He has a GAA of just 0.24 and nine saves this fall for the Falcons.
The Falcons are 3-0-1 on the season, with all four matches having been played away from home. BG opens the home portion of the schedule on Friday evening (Sept. 13), when Ohio State comes to Cochrane Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. match.
