BGSU duo now sees their names added to the national ballot
A pair of Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts have been named to the 2021 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA. Michael Montemurri and Kale Nichols each have been named to the team.
The Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Montemurri, a native of Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Holy Names Catholic), has started all 17 matches this season, and leads the Falcons in minutes played. The junior defender has been on the pitch for 1,603 of the Falcons' 1,607-plus minutes this fall.
He has scored five points on a pair of goals and an assist for the Falcons in 2021. At the other end of the pitch, he has helped the Orange and Brown keep eight clean sheets in 17 matches. BGSU has a team goals-against average of just 0.90.
In the classroom, Montemurri has a 3.983 cumulative grade-point average as a physics major.
Nichols, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio (Toledo St. John's Jesuit), has started all 17 matches this fall, and has been on the field for 1,480 total minutes. He has six points on a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Both of Nichols' goals came in Mid-American Conference matches, as he found the back of the net in back-to-back wins, over Georgia State and Georgia Southern. He has had assists against Wright State and Western Michigan.
In the classroom, the senior midfielder has a 3.928 cumulative GPA as a finance major.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
