Senior picks up fourth award so far this week
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Chris Sullivan has been named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the organization on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 23).
Sullivan is believed to be the first player in program history to earn national player-of-the-week honors from the USC (formerly the NSCAA).
This is the fourth award of the week for the senior. On Monday, Sullivan was named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, and he followed that up by being named to both the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week.
Sullivan, a native of Naperville, Ill. (North), was involved in the scoring of all three BGSU goals as the Falcons defeated Dayton, 3-2, in the season opener on Friday afternoon (Feb. 19). Sullivan assisted on Kyle Cusimano's goal in the 13th minute that tied the score at 1-1. Then, he scored a goal of his own to tie the contest once again with just over an hour gone.
With just 7:48 remaining in the second half, he had the primary assist on Jacob Erlandson's winner. It marked the second four-point match of Sullivan's career.
Sullivan's exploits vs. the Flyers increased his career totals to 12 goals, 15 assists and 39 points, leading current Falcons in all three categories.
Since Sullivan's own personal Awards SZN began, the Falcons have played (and won) again. BGSU posted a 2-1 win over Syracuse in Buffalo, N.Y., on Monday afternoon. Sullivan and the Falcons are now 20-9-3 over the last 32 matches, dating to late in the 2018 season.
Sullivan had assists on both BG goals vs. the Orange, meaning that he has been involved in the scoring of all five Falcon goals this season to date. And, he now has 17 career assists and 41 points in the Orange and Brown.
Sullivan and BGSU continue a season-opening stretch of five-straight matches away from home this weekend. The Falcons will begin a stretch of three consecutive road matches vs. nationally-ranked foes, taking on Marshall in a 3:00 p.m. start.
