Turner, Diggs, Plowden, Metheny & Fulcher Earn All-MAC Basketball Honors
March 10, 2021 | Men's Basketball
Turner, the first Falcon in 46 years to earn First Team All-MAC honors in three-consecutive seasons, is just the fifth player in Bowling Green history to earn top league honors in three-straight campaigns. Turner joins Cornelius Cash (1972-75), Howard Komives (1961-64), Nate "The Great" Thurmond (1960-63) and Jimmy Darrow (1957-60) as having accomplished the feat. The native of Detroit led the Mid-American Conference in scoring in 2020-21 with 478 points. He also dished out a career-high 107 assists.
Diggs is the second player in program history to take home the MAC's Sixth Man of the Year award. Brian Moten grabbed the honor in 2008. Diggs, who is shooting 38.7 percent (55-of-142) from downtown in 2020-21, has the third highest three-point percentage in the Mid-American Conference among players that have attempted at least 140 triples on the season. Diggs surpassed 1,000 collegiate points on the season, and has now totaled 510 points since becoming a Falcon in 2019.
Plowden enters tournament play fresh off possibly the strongest game of his career, having posted 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds on Senior Night versus Miami. The Philadelphia native adds a Third Team honor to his resume after racking up Second Team status in 2019-20. Plowden is one of just 10 Bowling Green players all-time – along with Scott Thomas (2008-12), Anthony Stacey (1995-2000), Ron Hammye (1975-78), Jim Connally (1968-71), Colin Irish (1980-84), Len Matela (1998-2002), Demajeo Wiggins (2015-19), Cornelius Cash (1973-75) and Nate "The Great" Thurmond (1961-63) – with 1,000 career points and 700 rebounds. Plowden ranks 10th place in both career blocks (87) and rebounds (716) at BGSU.
For the first time in program history, the Falcons placed multiple student-athletes on the league's All-Freshman Team. With both Metheny and Fulcher on the list, Bowling Green led the MAC with having two selection on the all-rookie team. Metheny and Fulcher join Justin Turner and Dylan Frye as the only guards in the Michael Huger Era to have been selected to the MAC's All-Freshman Team. Metheny has scored in double figures in five-straight games, highlighted by a 29-point effort at Eastern Michigan. Fulcher, who is averaging 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds, poured in a career-high 23 points at Kent State on Jan. 27.
Bowling Green opens the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday (March 11) with a quarterfinal game against Akron inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. The game, which is the fourth game of the session, has an approximate start time of 6:30 p.m. The tournament opener is at 11 a.m. Each game will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the previous contest.
