Erlandson's Early Goal Holds Up in Win at WVU

BGSU picks up second-straight 1-0 victory
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Jacob Erlandson's first-half goal lifted the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over West Virginia University Wednesday afternoon (March 17), in Mid-American Conference action at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The win was the second-straight 1-0 victory for the Falcons (4-3-0, 2-1-0 MAC).
Nathan Masters drew the lone assist on Erlandson's winner. Masters sent a free kick into the penalty area from the right side, and Erlandson's header was out of the reach of WVU goalkeeper Steven Tekesky. The Mountaineers (2-2-0, 1-2-0 MAC) were unable to find the equalizer over the remaining 78 minutes.
Logan Kowalczyk made three saves en route to his second consecutive shutout.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• BGSU has scored seven goals this season to date. Wednesday's goal was the first in which Chris Sullivan was not directly involved in the scoring.

"West Virginia is a very good team and put us under a lot of pressure. I am proud of how the guys were able to dig down and find what it took to come up with a win. This was a gutsy performance, but we'll need to be better the next time we play them."

• The Mountaineers had a 10-7 advantage in total shots, and each team fired three shots on goal. Logan Kowalczyk made three saves, all in the second half, to earn the clean sheet, while Steven Tekesky had two stops.
• Erlandson had two of BGSU's three shots on goal.
• Erlandson now has six points this season, good for second on the team behind Chris Sullivan (eight).
• Wednesday's goal was Erlandson's second of the year, and it was also his second game-winning goal this season.
• Masters now has three points on the season and five in his BGSU career.
• The Falcons now have a record of 22-12-3 over the last 37 matches, dating to late in the 2018 season. Eight of the 12 setbacks have come by a single goal.
