Falcons to Meet Monmouth In NCAA Championships

BGSU to Battle Hawks on Thursday, April 29, in Greensboro, N .C.
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will face Monmouth University in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship bracket was announced on Monday afternoon (April 19).
The Falcons (7-4-1) will meet the Hawks (5-2-1) in first-round action on Thursday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m. The match will be held at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
This will be the first-ever men's soccer meeting between BGSU and Monmouth.
The BGSU-MU winner will advance to face #2-seeded Pittsburgh in second-round action. That match will also take place at Bryan Park, on Sunday, May 2, at 8:00 p.m.
BGSU returns to the NCAA Championships for the seventh time in school history, but the first time since 1997. The Falcons have an all-time record of 4-6-0 in the NCAA Championships.
The Falcons earned the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships by virtue of winning the MAC regular-season title. BGSU finished with a 5-2-1 league record, clinching the title with a 2-1 overtime win over Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon (April 18).
Monmouth earned a spot in the 36-team field by winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday (April 17), defeating number-one seeded Quinnipiac, 1-0. The Hawks finished 2-2-1 in regular-season play, then reeled off wins over the third-, second- and top-seeded teams in the conference tournament. Monmouth advances to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2014.
BGSU's first three NCAA matches all came against Saint Louis. The Falcons' national tournament wins have come at home against Davidson (1995), Detroit (1996) and Colgate (1997) and on the road against Marquette ('97). The '95 team lost to Wisconsin, while the '96 and '97 teams each saw the season end on the road vs. Indiana.
