Men's Golf rising sophomore Connor Gdovin (Mayfield, Ohio) quickly became an impact student-athlete for the BGSU men's golf program in just his first season with the Falcons.
Q: As we are in the midst of summer. Do you have any fun summer plans or trips you are taking?
Gdovin: I am taking a golf trip down to Pinehurst with a bunch of friends. We have two teams of 12 and are going to play a Ryder Cup style match.
Q: You just finished up your first season at the collegiate level. What was your biggest takeaway from your freshman season?
Gdovin: My biggest take away from my freshman year was learning time management skills. I learned the importance of keeping lists and creating a calendar to make sure I was completing all my school work and maintaining my golf game.
Q: You are studying finance. What is your career goal after college in that field and how did you find that niche?
Gdovin: After college I would like to be a Financial Advisor. We have a few guys on the team that are also studying finance, after listening to what they have been doing and their career plans it was something I could see myself doing.
Q: You are from Mayfield, Ohio, which is just east of Cleveland. What is your favorite restaurant in the Cleveland area, and what’s your go-to order?
Gdovin: Marble Room. The restaurant used to be an old bank and is probably the coolest place I have been downtown. Not only is it a cool restaurant but it has the best steak you will ever eat.

Q: Growing up, how did you gravitate towards golf?
Gdovin: A few guys on my baseball team and I would always play on Wednesday mornings every summer. We all started out at about the same level but as the summers went on, I started to progress a little bit quicker. I began putting more time and effort in and a made it my priority to be the best golfer I could.
Q: Who inspired or encouraged you the most athletically growing up?
Gdovin: Michael Brantley. Baseball was my main sport growing up and he inspired me to work the hardest and play my best.
Q: What is a better tool to have in golf, the ability to have long drives or a consistent short game and why?
Gdovin: I think it is more important to have a consistent short game. A good short game can help you recover from a bad drive or iron shot. I believe that a good short game is what separates the best players in the world from the rest.
Q: Golf is changing for the first time in a long time with LIV Golf. What do you think of the new format that could enter the sport?
Gdovin: I think the LIV tour is definitely going to change golf. The PGA Tour has already announced a new series with increased payouts for the Tour’s top players. I do not think the LIV tour will last long, but it will change the PGA Tour.

Q: Where is your favorite spot on campus and why?
Gdovin: The golf room. It is my favorite place to go get some homework done and even get some practice in while taking a break from school.
Q: Who is the funniest player on the team and why?
Gdovin: Although he will not be joining us again next year, I would say Evan MacLean. Whenever he got to practice or workouts, he always had something funny to say. Evan will be missed.
Q: Describe Coach Powers in one word?
Gdovin: Invested
Q: To close, if you could play a round of golf with any professional golfer, past or present, who would it be and why?
Gdovin: I would play with Tiger Woods. He is the greatest to ever play the game and has changed the way golf is played.
