FUN FALCON FACTS
• BGSU enters the Xavier match with a record of 2-2-1, and the Falcons have won two-straight matches. After a 1-0 victory vs. Detroit Mercy at Cochrane Stadium (Sept. 4), the Falcons headed to Valparaiso and came away with a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11).
• Kennedy White has scored three goals in the last two games. Her first-half goal proved to be the winner against UDM on Senior Day at Cochrane Stadium.
• Then, at Valpo, White had a pair of goals, scoring roughly five minutes into each half, while Katie Cox capped the scoring with a second-half penalty kick.
• BGSU outshot the Beacons, 18-2, and the Falcons had an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
• The Valpo contest marked the first two-goal match of White's BGSU career. It was also the first multiple-goal contest by a Falcon since Madi Wolfbauer scored twice in a 3-1 win over Miami last Oct. 10.
• On Tuesday (Sept. 13), White was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, while Mackenzie Reuber was chosen to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. In addition to helping BGSU limit Valpo to two shot attempts in 90 minutes, Reuber had the assist on White's first goal.
• White now has career totals of 18 goals and 43 points. She has moved into a tie for 11th on the BGSU career goals list, and she is 15th in career points.
• White now has seven game-winning goals in her BGSU career.
Lili Berg made one save to keep a clean sheet at Valpo. Berg and Kasey Hartmann had combined for the shutout vs. UDM, as each played 45 minutes.
• The Falcons opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Michigan State at Cochrane Stadium (Aug. 18), then battled Cincinnati to a 1-1 draw at Cochrane one week later (Aug. 25). Berg had a total of 10 saves in those two contests.
• BGSU dropped a 4-0 decision at Tennessee, as the teams battled through 50 scoreless minutes before the Lady Vols got on the scoreboard. Berg made four stops on the night, while Hartmann played the final 17-plus minutes in goal.
• White leads the Falcons with three goals and six points on the young season, while freshman Brynn Gardner has three points on a goal and an assist. Gardner scored her first collegiate goal in the 71st minute of the UC match, then had the lone assist on White's goal against UDM.
• Gardner's goal vs. UC was set up by Lacee Bethea, who also had an assist on White's second goal at Valpo. Bethea is the lone Falcon with two assists in 2022.
• In August, it was announced that head coach Jimmy Walker had signed a multi-year contract extension. His contract now runs through the end of the 2025 season.
• BGSU has been picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference this season, according to the preseason coaches poll. The Falcons also were picked to place second last fall, but wound up winning both the regular-season and tournament titles.
• A total of 23 players have seen action for the Falcons this season, with no fewer than 19 of them having played in at least four of the five matches to date.
• Entering the Xavier match, the Falcons have an overall record of 19-10-5 since Walker took the helm, and BGSU is 16-3-1 against MAC teams in that time. Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, BGSU is 47-21-11 overall, 33-5-1 in MAC regular-season action and 40-5-3 in all games vs. league opposition.
THE OPPONENT
• Xavier enters Friday's BGSU match with an overall record of 5-2-1. The Musketeers bounced back from back-to-back losses (to Northwestern and Saint Louis) with a 4-1 win over Lipscomb on Sunday. Emma Flick leads the team with three goals and seven points, while Molly McLaughlin has six points this season. Maria Galley has played every second in goal and has a 1.13 goals-against average, 21 saves and three shutouts. Head coach Nate Lie welcomed back 23 letterwinners, including eight starters, from the 2021 club that went 16-3-1 overall and 9-1-0 in Big East play.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails Xavier, 3-2-1, in the all-time series, and the teams battled to a 1-1 draw at Cochrane Stadium exactly one year prior to this season's game (Sept. 16, 2021). BGSU captured the first two series meetings, in 2006 and '08, before XU won the next three, all by one goal. The last meeting at Corcoran Field saw the Musketeers pick up a 2-1 win three seasons ago (Aug. 25, 2019). BGSU is 1-2-1 at home and 1-1-0 on the road vs. the Musketeers through the years.
UP NEXT
• Sunday's Valparaiso match began a September-ending stretch in which BGSU plays four of five contests on the road.
• Following the Xavier match, the Falcons will return home for the MAC opener vs. Toledo. The Falcons and Rockets will meet on Thursday (Sept. 22), with first touch set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane.
• Then, the Falcons will end the month with matches at Western Michigan (Sept. 25) and Central Michigan (Sept. 29).
