Junior has five-point week as Falcons go 2-0
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Alberto Anaya has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. The team was announced Tuesday morning (Oct. 24).
Anaya, a native of Queretaro, Mexico (ITESM Leon), had five points as the Falcons posted a pair of 3-1 wins last week. Anaya had a goal and an assist in the Falcons' victory vs. UIC on Wednesday (Oct. 18). He scored what would prove to be the GWG to break a 1-1 tie late in the first half, then played a perfect diagonal ball to Nathan Masters, who got behind the defense and scored the game's final goal in the 77th minute vs. the Flames.
Then, on Sunday (Oct. 22), Anaya opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick to open the scoring in another 3-1 win, this time on the road against Drake.
Anaya now has scored a goal in three consecutive games. He is second on the team with 11 points, despite having missed three games due to injury. Anaya has three goals (tied for third on the club) and five assists (tied for the BG lead).
The Falcons are 7-5-3 overall, and BGSU has moved into third place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 4-2-0 conference record. BGSU closes the home portion of the regular-season schedule on Friday night (Oct. 27), hosting nationally-ranked Missouri State. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. Admission is free to all home regular-season matches.
