Volleyball Celebrates 2022 Championship Campaign With Banquet And Awards

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team held their 2022-23 banquet on Sunday (April 2), presenting the 2022 team awards and championship rings in addition to welcoming keynote speaker, and graduate of the program, Lindsey Butterfield Roth. The team presented eight awards, each based on the program's core values as well as the Support of the Year award.
During the 2022 season, the Falcons captured the MAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three years. Petra Indrova was named the MAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while Lauryn Hovey collected the MAC Freshman of the Year award. Indrova and Hovey were both named First Team All-MAC while Jessica Andrews earned Second Team All-MAC. Both Hovey and Andrews were named to the MAC All-Freshman Team as well.
Unity - Hannah Best
The unity award is presented to the student-athlete that best encompasses the mission to be together as one.
Hark Work - Yelianiz Torres
The hard word award is presented to the student-athlete that purposefully gives their best effort every day.
Competitiveness - Petra Indrova
The competitiveness award is given to the student-athlete that plays to win with a warrior spirit.
Communication - Hannah Best
The communication award is given to the student-athlete that shows honest and direct exchanges and deliberate nonverbal behaviors.
Excellence - Lindsey LaPinta
The excellence award is earned by the student-athlete that shows a commitment to becoming 1% better every day.
Love - Hannah Best
The love award is awarded to the student-athlete that consistently chooses to build relationships and serve others.
Community Service - Hannah Best
The community service award is earned by the student-athlete who accumulates the most service hours. Best earned over 40 during the course of the season.
Pat Peterson Academic Award - Petra Indrova, Lindsey LaPinta, Yelianiz Torres, Mia Tyler
The academic award is named after the first coach in program history, Pat Peterson, and is presented to student-athletes who maintain a 4.0 GPA over the last two semesters.
William J. Lloyd Supporter of the Year - Bruce Ziegler
Keynote Speaker - Lindsey Butterfield Roth '14
Lindsey Butterfield Roth was welcomed back to the program to be the keynote speaker at the event. Butterfield (2010-13) was part of the 2012 team that earned the program's first NCAA Tournament victory, beating Yale in the first round after overcoming a 2-0 deficit in the MAC Championship. In the match against Yale, Butterfield recorded 14 kills and 13 digs for a double-double in addition to four blocks. Butterfield was a two-time first team All-MAC recipient and was named Academic All-District First Team in 2012.
