Senior defender has found the net in back-to-back matches
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Kyle Cusimano has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday evening (Sept. 5). Cusimano becomes the first MVC weekly award winner in program history.
Cusimano, a native of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay), scored the first goal of the match in both of BGSU's games during the nomination period, a 2-2 draw at Duquesne on Thursday (Aug. 31) and a 2-1 win over Michigan on Monday (Sept. 4). Both goals were headers off of Alberto Anaya set pieces.
The senior headed home an Anaya corner kick to begin the DU contest on a header that hit the underside of the crossbar and landed behind the goal line, then opened the scoring vs. U-M on a gorgeous diving header after a free kick from just outside the box.
Cusimano now has seven career goals, but the goal vs. the Wolverines was the first goal he has scored at BGSU's Cochrane Stadium.
Cusimano is tied for the team lead in goals (two) and points (four) on the young season.
The Falcons, 2-1-1 on the year, are home for the next two matches, beginning with a Friday night (Sept. 8) contest vs. DePaul, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. Admission is free to all home regular-season matches.
The homestand concludes with a matchup vs. Northern Kentucky next Tuesday (Sept. 12), before BG heads to Kalamazoo to begin Missouri Valley Conference play with a Sept. 16 contest against Western Michigan.
