BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University men's soccer head coach Eric Nichols has announced the hiring of Jacob Weinshank to his staff. Weinshank joins the Falcons as an assistant coach.
"We are delighted to add Jacob and his wife, Jessie, to Bowling Green," said Nichols. "Jacob has a great amount of college coaching experience, both on the field and behind the scenes. Â Most importantly, he is a tremendous fit culturally for both our program and our community."
Weinshank joins the Falcons after spending the last six seasons on the men's soccer staff at the University of North Florida.
"I am thrilled for this opportunity to contribute to Bowling Green soccer," said Weinshank. "Thank you to Coach Nichols, who has been fantastic during the interview process and so welcoming to me and my family.
"It is exciting to join a program with both a rich history and recent success on the pitch with a great reputation in the college soccer community. I look forward to getting down to work with the student-athletes this spring and doing my part to bring more championships to BGSU."
Weinshank joined the UNF staff as a volunteer coach in the summer of 2018 and was promoted to assistant coach in the spring of 2019.
While with the Ospreys, Weinshank has helped in producing a top-25 victory on the road, as well as the Atlantic Sun Conference's top goals-against average in back-to-back seasons. He also saw Cormac Begley and Jovoney Brown earn All-ASUN Second-Team honors in the spring 2021 season, while helping Joaquin Acuña take home ASUN All-Freshman honors in the fall of 2021 and LJ Estes earn ASUN First-Team and All-Academic accolades in 2022.
In January of 2023, Weinshank was selected as the Most Valuable Coach at the EXACT Soccer National Showcase Camps as tabbed by aspiring collegiate student-athletes attending the camps throughout the fall and winter season. Athletes attending the camps rated their collegiate instructors, with Weinshank achieving the highest mark.
Weinshank joined the UNF staff after serving as a college assistant men's soccer coach at Maine Maritime Academy in 2017-18. He also worked as Head Coach and Assistant Director at Seacoast United Maine. Additionally, Weinshank was the Head Coach of the University of Maine Men's Club Soccer team in 2016-17 and the Director of the Soccer Program for Camp Skylemar in Naples, Maine, from 2013-15.
His coaching experience also includes a stint as a staff coach at Jacksonville Armada FC from 2018-19.
A 2015 graduate of Salve Regina University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology, Weinshank was a four-year starter on the men's soccer team. Weinshank's brace in the 2012 conference final helped lead Salve Regina to the 2012 NCAA DIII Tournament and earned him the Offensive Player of the Tournament in the 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs. He garnered the Commonwealth Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award (2014) and was selected a NSCAA All-East Region Scholar.
Â
Weinshank graduated with a Master's degree from the University of Maine in 2017. He holds a United States Soccer Federation National C License.
