Anaya, Graves Earn Conference Player-of-the-Week Accolades
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts Alberto Anaya and Brendan Graves have earned Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week honors. Anaya has been named the MVC's Offensive Player of the Week, with Graves earning Defensive Player-of-the-Week accolades. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 5).
Anaya earns the MVC weekly honor for the first time in his career (although he was twice named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week when the Falcons competed in the MAC). Graves has earned MVC Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the third time this season.
Anaya, a native of Queretaro, Mexico (ITESM Leon), scored the game-winning goal as the Falcons defeated #14 Western Michigan, 3-0, on Friday night (Nov. 1) at Cochrane Stadium. The Falcons' win ended the Broncos' 37-match unbeaten streak, dating to August of 2023.. Anaya opened the game's scoring, converting a free kick in the 34th minute. He tied for game honors with three shots on goal, and the game-winning goal was the eighth of his career, tying him for fifth place on that BGSU career list.
Graves, a native of Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg), made four saves en route to the shutout against the Broncos. Those four stops included a spectacular diving save on a shot that was ticketed for the far post in the second half, and he then blocked a volley near the other post after the ensuing corner kick. For Graves, the shutout was his fifth of the season and the 16th of his career, tying him for seventh on the school's career list.
The Falcons are now 10-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the MVC. BGSU will end the regular-season schedule with a Wednesday (Nov. 6) match at Oregon State, before playing an MVC Tournament first-round match on Sunday (Nov. 10). The opponent, site and start time for BGSU's tourney match will be determined after the conclusion of the regular-season slate on Wednesday.
