Nichols, Falcons Unveil Fall 2024 Schedule
May 23, 2024 | Men's Soccer, Falcon Club
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has announced his team's schedule for the 2024 season. The Falcons will play a 17-match regular-season slate that includes eight contests inside the friendly confines of Cochrane Stadium.
Six of those eight home matches are on weekend nights, as BGSU is slated to play five Friday games and one Saturday contest at Cochrane.
The 17-game schedule also features a total of six matches against teams that finished in the top 60 of the RPI in the 2023 season. BGSU ends the 2024 regular-season slate by facing the teams that were ranked sixth and fourth, respectively, in last year's final RPI.
"We built this schedule to challenge us against the best teams in the nation and prepare us for the Missouri Valley Conference," said Nichols. "With a number of big home games and tough road tests, this is the type of schedule that really invigorates our guys and our community."
In addition to the rigorous MVC schedule, the Falcons will face four opponents from the Horizon League, two from the Big Ten Conference and one each from the Big East, Ohio Valley and West Coast conferences.
The regular-season schedule begins with a home match vs. Wright State. This year's battle for the I-75 Cup will take place on Friday, Aug. 23, inside Cochrane Stadium.
The Falcons then play three-straight games on the road, including a pair of games vs. Big Ten foes. BGSU travels to Michigan State (Aug. 26) and Michigan (Sept. 2) on back-to-back Mondays, with a Friday matchup at IU Indianapolis (Aug. 30) in between.
Following the Michigan match, the Orange and Brown will host Butler on Friday, Sept. 6, before beginning MVC play on the following Friday night (Sept. 13). Northern Illinois will come to town to commence conference competition.
In addition to the NIU match, the Falcons' MVC schedule also includes home games vs. Belmont (Sept. 27), Drake (Oct. 12) and defending league champion Western Michigan (Nov. 1). BG's conference road slate features trips to Bradley (Sept. 21), UIC (Oct. 5), Missouri State (Oct. 20) and Evansville (Oct. 25).
The 2024 slate also features non-league home games vs. Eastern Illinois (Sept. 24) and Detroit Mercy (Oct. 8) along with trips to Northern Kentucky (Sept. 17) and Oregon State (Nov. 6). The latter game sees the Falcons taking on an OSU team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 2023.
In fact, three of BGSU's final four regular-season games come against programs that finished the 2023 season in the top-25 of the RPI, in Missouri State (23rd), Western Michigan (sixth) and Oregon State (fourth). All three teams advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Championships.
Prior to the regular-season opener, the Orange and Brown will play three scrimmages, hosting Robert Morris on Aug. 9 before hitting the road to meet Indiana (Aug. 13 in Westfield, Ind.) and Dayton (Aug. 16).
