Graves Named MVC Defensive Player of the Week
September 03, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Brendan Graves has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 3). Graves earns the honor for the first time in his career.
Graves, a native of Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg), had one of the top matches of his BGSU career in last Monday's (Aug. 26) 1-0 victory at Michigan State. Graves made six saves in the Falcons' shutout win over the Spartans. None of the saves were routine, and he stopped several breakaways en route to keeping the clean sheet.
Then, Graves made two stops in the Falcons' win at IU Indy over the weekend. The lone goal he allowed in that match came on a penalty kick. Graves made two stops in that match before adding four saves in Monday's (Sept. 2) contest at Michigan.
For Graves, the shutout at MSU was the 12th of his BGSU career. Eight of those shutouts have come on the road.
This is the second honor the Falcons have earned on Tuesday (Sept. 3). Earlier in the day, Kyle Cusimano was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
Graves, Cusimano and the Falcons are 3-1-0 overall heading into a two-match homestand, BGSU will face Butler on Saturday (Sept. 7) at Cochrane Stadium. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
