June 24, 2013 | General, Gymnastics
For the fourth year in a row, BGSU Athletics will be counting down the top stories of the year all summer long. 2012-13 was a banner year for athletics at BGSU and the list of best moments of the year is arguably the strongest since beginning this annual event.
We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer until the No. 1 story of the year is announced on Aug. 5 -- just as BGSU football camp gets underway and the 2013-14 season has officially started! Don't forget to purchase your season tickets NOW!
Jamilah Ali And Alyssa Nocella Win MAC Gymnastics Championships
The future is bright for the BGSU gymnastics team and it only takes a look at the MAC Gymnastics Championships to find that out. Bowling Green sophomore Jamilah Ali scored a 9.875 to tie for the conference championship on the vault and freshman Alyssa Nocella scored a 9.85 on the balance beam to win that title outright. It was the first time since 2001 that BGSU won multiple titles at the MAC Championships. (FOR COMPLETE 2013 MAC CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP, CLICK HERE)
Both Ali and Nocella were named to the all-conference team and Nocella went on to compete at the NCAA regionals, along with teammate junior Megan Harrington. Nocella placed 11th in the all-around at regionals (Harrington was 12th) and her floor score of 9.85 was the best single-event score at regionals for a Falcon since 1999.
