I look forward to developing relationships with the young men in this program and the members of the Bowling Green community."
Schoonover served as the Linebackers Coach at Illinois State since 2011, adding the role of Special Teams Coordinator in 2012. He coached 14 all-conference players (nine at linebacker and five on special teams) as well as three-time All-American long snapper Chris Highland and All-American linebacker Pat Meehan. Schoonover is the final assistant coach hire for Jinks and the BGSU Football staff. Since the conclusion of the 2017 season, Jinks has completely remade the defensive side of the ball by hiring Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini, Defensive Line Coach Jimmy Williams, Secondary Coach LaMarcus Hicks, Cornerbacks Coach DeJon Gomes and Schoonover. Co-Offensive Coordinators Kevin Kilmer (wide receivers) and Andy Padron (quarterback) return, as do Running Backs Coach Marcus White, Offensive Line Coach Stephen Hamby and Receivers Coach Seth Doege.
