Chuck Black enjoyed one of the brightest collegiate baseball careers ever at Bowling Green, where he lettered for four years under Coach Don Purvis.  The second baseman from Lima earned Third Team All-America honors in 1978, and completed his collegiate career in 1979 as BGSU's career record holder for at-bats, runs, hits, walks, and games played. He also earned All-MAC First Team honors in 1978, also earning All-MAC Second Team honors during the 1977 and 1979 seasons.
BG's starting shortstop as a freshman and sophomore and starting second baseman as a junior and senior, Black was a dangerous hitter. He batted .378 in his career, including a .397 campaign his junior year and .385 season as a senior. He led the team in hitting every year but one, that being his freshman season when he finished third.Â
Black was drafted out of high school by the Detroit Tigers, but chose to attend Bowling Green instead. He was then later drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 26th round of the 1979 MLB draft.Â
Chuck Black was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
