Dave Ellet was an integral member of the Falcon team in 1983-84 as a sophomore that won the only NCAA national championship in school history. He signed with the Winnipeg Jets shortly after the championship. Ellett has also played for Toronto, New Jersey, and Boston, during his professional career.
The Kanata, Ontario native was fourth on the team with 54 points (15 goals, 39 assists) in the 1983-84 season earning second-team All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association honors. He earned a spot on the CCHA and NCAA all-tournament teams as the Falcons captured the regular season CCHA title with a 22-4-2 mark. The Falcons finished the season with a 34-8-2 overall record.
Ellett, whose tenure in the NHL is as long as any in conference history while he has played in more NHL games than all but one player in the 27-year history of the CCHA. He is one of the only 128 players in NHL history to play in 1,000 regular season games (1,023 games) which ranked him 34th all-time among defensemen at the time of his retirement, while his 552 points ranked 30th all-time among defensemen.
Ellet was an NHL All-Star in 1989-90 while at Winnipeg and again in 1991-92 while in Toronto. He had his career highs of 58 points and 45 assists in the 1987-88 season at Winnipeg while his 22 goals the following season with the Jets was his best in that category. He has also played in 101 playoff games scoring 56 points and was also a memeber of Team Canada in 1989 which captured the silver medal in the World Championships.
Dave Ellet was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.
