Dave McClain

Dave McClain enrolled at BGSU in 1956, and was a three-year letterman in football as a quarterback and safety. As a career reserve player, he completed 14 of 27 passes for 247 yards. His career record was 22-3-2. He graduated in 1960, and became a graduate assistant in 1961. He would go on and coach for 17 years at various colleges.Â
McClain went on to a successful coaching career at Cornell, Miami (OH), Kansas, Ohio State, before becoming the head coach at Ball State and Wisconsin. After his death, the Big Ten Conference has named their Coach of the Year award in honor of Dave McClain.
Dave McClain was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
