Following his second team All-MAC selection in 1971 with a first team nod his senior year, Fred Sturt was also named Team co-MVP in 1972. He was drafted by St. Louis in the third round of the 1973 NFL Draft. The Swanton, Ohio native played seven seasons at guard in the NFL with Washington, New England and New Orleans.
He was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.
