- Induction:
- 2017
- Class:
- 1976
A native of Wayne, Pa. and a 1976 Bowling Green graduate, Ginny McGee Beneke played both lacrosse and field hockey for the Falcons during her time at BGSU from 1972-76. She was the only Bowling Green player in the 11-year history of the lacrosse program to play on the United States Women's Lacrosse Assocation (USWLA) National All-Star Team in each of her four seasons. She also played three years of field hockey.
Â
Beneke led the lacrosse team to a 12-2 record as a senior, the program's best record to that point. During that season, she had 10 goals in a 13-1 rout of Ohio State and posted seven more in a 16-2 win over Ball State. Her freshman and sophomore teams combined for a 13-4 mark. In field hockey, Beneke was selected for the All-Buckeye Team in 1973 and 1974.
Â
She was deeply involved in numerous activities during her time at Bowling Green, including Ski Club, Student Government Association, dorm council, a crisis phone volunteer, and as a resident advisor and orientation leader. Beneke held a congressional internship in Washington, D.C. in the winter quarter of 1976, working with Connecticut Congressman Stewart McKinney.
Â
Beneke went on to earn a master's degree in business administration at George Washington and completed the Executive Management program at Wharton School of Business. She was one of three women who founded and established the Washington D.C. Women's Lacrosse Club in 1979 and began playing tennis as well in the late 1970s. She excelled at that sport and was ranked in the top five in the state of Florida for her age group in the 1990s and No. 1 in her age group for six years in San Diego.
Â
Beneke is transitioning from her position as the CEO of Merit Education, a company that provides educational services for high achieving students, to providing marketing and business consulting services and running workshops for the American Marketing Association (AMA).
Â
Beneke and her husband Jim live in San Diego with their two rescue miniature dachshunds, Cosmo and Tivoli. They are both actively involved in competitive tennis and enjoy other sports such as skiing, biking and running. They are also active in the business community and enjoy traveling on their vacations.
