Ivan Lake

Ivan Lake was a member of the first football squad in 1919. He was also the first letterman in BGSU Tennis history. Lake lettered two times as a cheerleader, and served as a manager for football, baseball, and basketball.
Lake went on to be a football official for 25 seasons, and was the official scorer for BGSU basketball from 1923-53. He also was the editor and publisher of the football program for over 20 years. During Lake's tenure as sports editor of the Sentinel-Tribune, he was faithful, loyal, and energetic in promoting Falcon Athletics. Ivan Lake also originated the nickname of "Falcons" for athletic teams. Lake was one of the first people to help kick-start a homecoming tradition that has happened every year since it started a 100 years ago. In 1964, Lake received the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
