Jay Cunningham

Jay Cunningham was an All-MAC halfback in each of his three seasons (1962-64) in which he earned a letter. Cunningham was probably the best all-around back on the team during the time he played, rushing for 1,258 yards, while also catching 32 passes. Cunningham ran for 21 career touchdowns and accumulated 23 touchdowns at BGSU.
After three seasons with the Boston Patriots in the NFL as a defensive back, Cunningham came back to BGSU to work with the Student Development Program and the football team.
The Youngstown, Ohio native then coached at Alabama A&M, Southern Illinois and Louisville before becoming the head coach at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans.Â
Jay Cunningham was elected to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
