Macs Leitman attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he earned letters in four sports. Came to Bowling Green along with his high school coach, Paul Landis, who encourage Leitman to come after his first year at Lynchburg College. He moved into a starting halfback post on the 1926 team, and gained All-Northwestern Ohio Conference honors. Leitman was also the punter of the team that season.
As a punter, Leitman holds the record for the longest punt at BG, with a 95-yard punt against Bluffton in the 1928 season. During his time at BG, Leitman earned All-Northwestern Ohio Conference honors 3 years in a row, starting with the 1926 season and ending in 1928.
Leitman signed a professional baseball contract with Allentown in 1930, who were apart of the Eastern League at the time.
Macs Leitman was elected to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1971.
