Robert Long was a four-year basketball letterman, as well as a three-year track award winner. He was selected as a "Little All-American" (5'10" or under) in 1949. People described Long as "Small, but Mighty," as he was standout basketball ace for the Falcons. A national sport magazine in 1950, named Long one of the best defensive player in the nation. Long was very good at handling the fast break and could shoot the ball really well. For the 1950-51 season Long was named captian for his final season for the Falcons.
Robert Long was elected to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977.
