Robert Zimpfer was a three-year starter at tackle in football. He was named to the All-MAC team and All-Ohio team in both 1958 and 1959. As a senior in 1959 he was selected on the Williamson All-American team and played in the North-South game in Miami. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers of the American Football League.
Robert Zimpfer was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974.
