Todd Black, a native of Kenton, Ohio, burst on to the scene at the 1990 MAC meet, finishing second in the 800 meters. Black had the fastest times on the team in the 800 and 1,500 meters in that year's outdoor season, while owning the team's best indoor times in the 800, 1,500, and mile. In 1991, Black led the team in points scored. With his success in the 1991 season, Black was named a provisional NCAA qulaifier.
Black sat out the 1991-92 season, but made it to the semifinal round of the 1992 Olympic Trials in the 800 in New Orleans. In the summer of 1992, Black competed with the U.S. Olympic Development team in Europe. He was a 1993 All-America member, when he was an automatic qualifier to the NCAA meet in the 800. During that season, Black won the 1,500 meter event at the MAC Championships, becoming BGSU's first MAC title in a running event in 12 years.
All-MAC in cross country in both 1990 and 1991, Black was BG's outstanding freshman in cross country in 1989. At the 1990 MAC Cross Country Championships, Black finished ninth, which earned him All-Ohio honors. In 1991, Black was named to the All-MAC, All-Ohio, and All-Central Collegiate teams for cross country.
In 1996, Black competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta in the 800 meters, and advanced to the finals.
Todd Black was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
