The Falcons 23rd win at home over a non-league opponent in its last 27 contests at Anderson Arena was not easy even though the visitors led only briefly, for 17 seconds early in the game. The Falcons took the lead for good at 7-4 at the 17:12 mark of the first half on the first of four three-pointers on the night for Anthony Stacey, who led the Falcons with 23 points.
Twice the Falcons led by seven points in the first first half, and settled for a five-point advantage, 31-26, at the break.
In the second half, BG built a 10-point cushion scoring five unanswered points at the 16:22 mark. But, ISU scored the next five points to cut the deficit in half at the 14:33 mark. That would be as close as they would get.
Dunks by Dave Esterkamp and Trent Jackson on BG's next two trips down the court started a 9-0 run which also included a Stacey three-pointer and two free tosses by Jackson to put the Falcons up by a 55-41 count.
The Redbirds would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way with BG leading by double digits the last nine minutes of the contest.
Jackson joined Stacey in double figures with 16 points while Esterkamp added 14 and Len Matela scored 13. Stacey led the team with eight rebounds.
BG's 4-0 start is the best since the 1974-75 squad started the season with five straight wins. BG has now won 11 of its last 13 games dating back to last season.
