The Bowling Green State University softball team has been recognized for its collective efforts in the classroom, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association has included the Falcons on its list of All-Academic Teams. BGSU ranked seventh among all NCAA Division I teams, with a 3.33 team grade-point average for the 1998-99 academic year.
The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw were the highest-ranked Mid-American Conference team on the list, which was released by the NFCA late Thursday (Sept. 30). Belmont (Tenn.) University topped the Division I list with a 3.523 GPA.
Of the 15 returning players on the 1999-2000 Falcon softball squad, a total of eight boast a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. That group is led by sophomore Holly Frantz (Grand Rapids, Ohio/Otsego), who has a perfect 4.00 GPA entering the fall, 1999, semester. No fewer than 11 of those 15 student-athletes have a GPA of 2.70 or higher.
Additionally, of the six players not returning to this year's squad, five had a cumulative GPA of better than 3.00.
