Falcons Drop Home Meet To Central Michigan

The Bowling Green State University women's gymnastics team dropped its first meet of the season losing a 193.950 to 192.850 decision to Central Michigan, the defending Mid-American Conference champions, Friday night at the Eppler Complex.
Sophomore Marny Oestreng won two events and the all-around to lead the Falcons. Oestreng took the vault competition with a score of 9.850 while her best of 9.875 in the bars was also the best score of the 12 competitors.
Oestreng was also second in the beam (9.800) and floor exercise (9.875) which gave her an all-around total of 39.400 to earn the top spot in the meet.
Central Michigan's Nikki Liphardt won the beam (9.825) and floor exercise (9.900) and was second to Oestreng in the all-around with a total of 39.175.
Bowling Green had the better team total in the bars (48.425 to 48.200) and floor exercise (48.950 to 48.850), but the difference was in the beam where CMU had a 48.500 total compared to 47.100 for the Falcons. CMU also edged the Falcons in the vault, 48.400 to 48.375.
Bowling Green will be in action again Sunday afternoon at Western Michigan in another MAC meet.
Bowling Green is now 2-1 overall and has the same record in MAC action.
