BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Kristin Gamby pounded 15 kills off the bench as the Bowling Green State University volleyball team recorded a three-game sweep of the visiting University at Buffalo Friday night (Oct. 13). The Falcons captured the Mid-American Conference match (15-4, 15-7, 15-7) at venerable Anderson Arena.
BGSU hit .363 as a team, with 58 kills and just 13 errors in 124 total attempts. The .363 hitting percentage was the team's best in MAC play this season, and the third-highest overall effort this year.
BG, now 10-7 overall and 3-5 in the MAC, burst out to commanding leads in all three games. The Falcons took a 9-0 lead in game one, and the Brown and Orange scored the first eight points in each of the other two games en route to the win.
Gamby hit a career-high .458 on the night, and shattered her previous high of six kills in a match. In fact, the redshirt sophomore entered the match with a career total of 20 kills, and nearly matched that effort vs. the Bulls.
Senior JoAnna Papageorgiou and junior Caty Rommeck joined Gamby in double digits in kills, and each hit over .500 on the night. "Pop" had 13 kills and did not make an error in 24 attempts. Rommeck had 12 kills and a match-best six total blocks.
Susie Norris added eight kills, while junior Karen Tangeman had a team-high 10 digs, as head coach Denise Van De Walle used a total of 13 different players in the victory.
Junior Natalie Becker had 43 assists.
For UB (4-14 overall, 0-7 MAC), Keri Shiels led the way with 10 kills, while Lindsay Matikosh had 14 digs on the night.
