Fairbanks, Alaska -
The Bowling Green State University hockey team played its fourth overtime game in the last six contests Friday night at Alaska Fairbanks as the teams skated to a 2-2 (overtime) tie.
BG junior center Greg Day scored his ninth goal of the campaign at the 8:48 mark of the opening period to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. It was only the second time this year BG had scored first in a game. Day's five-on-five goal was assisted by Ryan Fultz and Kevin Bieksa.
The Nanooks tied the game with a five-on-three power play goal with 22 seconds left in the first period. Jim Lawrence's goal was assisted by Blaine Bablitz and Daniel Carriere.
After a scoreless second period, BG's Curtis Valentine was credited with the Falcons' next goal at 6:04 of the third period when his centering pass deflected off a UAF defenseman's skate past Nanook goalie Preston McKay. Valentine was on his stomach some 15 feet away from the UAF cage.
UAF scored the equalizer as Lawrence netted his second of the game during a four-on-four situation.
BG goalie Shawn Timm was credited with 48 saves including 22 in the opening period. McKay made 31 saves for the Nanooks.
Both teams are now 2-6-3 overall and 2-4-3 in the CCHA. BG and UAF will conclude its four-game season series on Saturday at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.
