MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Host Wisconsin-Milwaukee pulled away in the second half for a 68-48 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team Thursday (Dec. 28). The non-conference contest was held at UWM's Klotsche Center.
BGSU led, 29-28, at the half, but a pair of Panther runs enabled the hosts to build a second-half margin. After BGSU's Dana Western opened the scoring in the second half, UWM put together a 10-0 run to take a 38-32 lead with five minutes gone. Then, after BG scored eight consecutive points, the Panthers had another 10-0 run to go up by a 50-40 count. BGSU would not get any closer than eight points thereafter.
For the Falcons, now 4-7 on the season, junior Francine Miller led the way with 11 points. The game marked Miller's first action after missing five contests due to injury. Senior Afra Smith was the only other Falcon in double digits, with 10 points on the night.
Senior Angie Farmer also saw action after missing five games due to injury. She had six points on the night, going 2-of-3 from three-point land.
Freshman Lindsay Austin had seven points for the Brown and Orange.
For the hosts, now 4-4, Maria Viall had a game-high 19 points.
BGSU opens both the new millennium and the Mid-American Conference schedule with a Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2001) home contest against Akron. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
