The Bowling Green baseball team suffered a 6-2 setback at Michigan on Wednesday to fall to 7-11-1 overall. BG opens the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule this weekend with a pair of home doubleheaders. The Falcons face Toledo on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Eastern Michigan on Sunday (1 p.m.) at Steller Field.
The Wolverines scored four times in the first inning against BG starter Joe Cheney. Jordan Cantalamessa began the inning with a double and scored two batters later on a Falcon error. Rob Bobeda tripled in Michigan's second run and scored on an RBI single by Jeff Trzos. UM's final run of the inning came on an RBI groundout.
BG scored its first run in the fifth inning when Nick Elrod doubled in Kenny Burdine with two outs. The Falcons other run came the next inning when Aric Christman led off with a double and came around to score on back-to-back infield groundouts by Len Elias and Alan Gilhousen.
Nick Elrod tied a BGSU record with three doubles in the contest, while Lee Morrison also chipped in with three singles.
Joe Cheney pitched the first three innings and allowed five runs (three earned). Deryck Griffith hurled the next three innings allowing one earned run. Craig Menke and Ryan Streb each tossed a scoreless inning.
