TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Erin Zwinck's two-out bloop single scored junior Angie Domschot for the only run of the game, and the Bowling Green softball team kept its winning streak alive with a 1-0 win over Boston University. The game, which took eight innings to complete, was played in Tampa, Fla., Wednesday morning (March 8).
Freshman McKenna Houle, the third BG pitcher of the game, threw the final two innings and picked up her second consecutive win. Sophomores Jessie Milosek and Andrea Genter worked three scoreless innings apiece in the win over the Terriers. Each team had four hits in the game.
The winning run scored in the bottom of the eighth. Angie Domschot singled with one out, and senior Carmen Hitterdal sacrificed her to second. Zwinck, the next batter, hit a bloop single. The ball landed between the BU shortstop and leftfielder as Domschot, running on the play, scored to end the game.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Falcons, now 6-3 on the year. The team's 6-3 start is by far the best in school history. The Falcons' previous best nine-game beginning to a season was a 4-4-1 start in 1983.
Bowling Green remains in Florida for five more games, beginning Friday (March 10). On that day, the Falcons will play a doubleheader against Toledo at 10:30 a.m., followed by a single game vs. Buffalo at 6:00 p.m. All three games are scheduled to be played at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
