Bowling Green scored in double-digits for the third consecutive game in downing visiting Findlay, 11-8, Wednesday at Steller Field. The victory also extended BG's season-long winning streak to six games.
After falling behind 1-0, the Falcons scored four times in the third inning. Kelly Hunt had a leadoff walk and Brad Simon and Shaun Rice each had bunt singles to load the bases. Following a flyout, Kenny Burdine walked to score Hunt. Rice and Simon each scored on an Oiler error, with a Lee Morrison single scoring Burdine.
Bowling Green added five runs in the fifth. Kenny Burdine hit a two-out solo home run to start the rally. Alan Gilhousen doubled, while Lee Morrison and Matt Best followed with back-to-back singles. Corey Loomis hit a three-run home run, his second of the year.
BG's sixth inning run came on Tim Newell's second home run of the campaign. The Falcons final run came as Matt Marcum reached on an error, and following two outs, moved to second when Nick Schmidt was hit by a pitch. Marcum scored on another Findlay error.
Deryck Griffith, in his first collegiate start, allowed one run in three innings. Tony Fontana and Joe Cheney each hurled a scoreless inning. Craig Menke allowed two unearned runs in two innings, with Mike Muzi surrendering five runs (four earned) in 1.2 innings. Chad Curlis came in with the bases loaded and retired the lone batter he faced for his second save of the season.
Bowling Green improves to 20-13-1 overall, while Findlay falls to 15-14. Bowling Green visits Detroit Mercy for a 3 p.m. game on Thursday.
